CONNECTICUT, I'M PROUD OF YOU

On Friday October 10th, 2008, the Connecticut Supreme Court decided that same sex marriage is legal. "Interpreting our state constitutional provisions in accordance with firmly established equal protection principles leads inevitably to the conclusion that gay persons are entitled to marry the otherwise qualified same sex partner of their choice." The next day I drove to Massachusetts to photograph a same sex wedding. I strongly believe that no one should have a right to say what any two consenting adults should or should not do, as long is it isn't harmful to themselves or others. Why should anyone decided whom someone should love? How would you feel to be told you couldn't marry the person you loved, even if you wanted to? The women that were married this last weekend have been together for 16 years, and have lived as wife and wife for the better part of that time. They are raising two delightful children, and are surrounded by a loving and welcoming family. It may have been a different party, one of the brides said during their toast to their guests, if it had been done years ago, but we wouldn't have had our lovely children here. What an optimistic way to look at it.
